The Monarch Boarding Academy is a unique residential treatment program designed specifically for children, adolescents and young adults, ages 8 to 22, who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. The program focuses on developing communication and life skills so that residents can learn to become better functioning, allowing them to return home or to a less-restrictive setting.
Residents live in a comfortable, secure, home-like setting designed and staffed to enhance social, behavioral, communicative, functional and academic growth. Each resident's day, from wake-up to bedtime, is highly structured and consistent. All activities – from personal grooming to group meal preparation to recreation – are designed to complement classroom experience at the Monarch School or other private or public schools.
What makes it unique
Our small staff-to-resident ratio affords children the engagement and attention necessary, so that they can make larger strides in shorter periods of time.
Program components include aspects not typically found at other residential treatment centers for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. They include:
- A highly structured day.
- Continual data collection, with results folded back into the treatment plan.
- A focus on controlling environmental stressors.
- The ability to meet the needs of those who are non-verbal, across the spectrum, to those with highly-functioning Asperger’s syndrome.
- The inclusion of parents throughout treatment.
- The use of technology, such as SMART Boards and digital media.
